Fergie Unveiles Her New Shoe Collection

Fergie Unveiles Her New Shoe Collection

Wearing a Dolce & Gabbana sheath, and with her own bag collection with Kipling under her belt Fergie unveiled her shoe collection with Brown Shoe in L.A. at the WSA show.

Fergie sat in the front row of a mini-runway show and look pleased at as the funky gladiators, playful platforms, sporty slip ons and strappy sandals pranced down the runway one by one.

As the designer herself put it, “I have always loved fashion because it’s a great way to express your mood. And I’m definitely a shoe lover. The right pair of shoes can change the feel of an outfit, and even change how a woman feels about herself. A woman can wear confidence on her feet with a high stiletto, or slip into weekend comfort with a soft ballet flat.”

Can the Perfect Handbag Impact My Social Goals?

July 31, 2008

The perfect handbag is as elusive as the perfect partner. You try them on, take them out, see how your friends feel about them, and then take them home. You want to break them in, but you know that they aren’t going to change too much from the initial meeting. You want to be able to take them anywhere; out to dinner, to the movies, or to a fancy dinner, and know that they will fit in. When you’ve finally found that perfect handbag, or date for that matter, you never want to let them go, and can’t even imagine a replacement!

I am still on the hunt for the perfect bag, but I can envision it in my head. I have the entire wish list, yes, the same kind I had for “the perfect spouse” once upon a time.

Here are my requirements (for the bag, I’m not sharing that other list):

1) Black with silver hardware, preferably leather

2) Medium size- not too big or too small, so that it is ready for any occasion

3) Lots of pockets so that I can stay organized and don’t become one of those “bag ladies” who is constantly digging for her keys, phone, makeup, or whatever.

4) Adjustable shoulder strap so it can be worn on one shoulder, or across the chest

5) Matches anything

Just as I quest for this infamous bag, it seems I also have my social goals to match.

1) A government who cares for its people more than it cares about power and money

2) A country that is more concerned with community that TV

3) Health and wellness for all, regardless of social status or circumstance

4) A minimum wage above the poverty line

5) Affordable housing, so that good and hardworking families are not living on the street

It seems at times that the search for the perfect fashion statement seems trivial when we have all these other concerns on our plate. However, one thing this ongoing quest has taught me is this, no matter how “dreamy” our wish list may seem at times we can never stop looking. When we stop looking for the perfect bag, man, woman, or government then we will lose all hope of ever finding it. Perhaps when I do find that perfect bag it will just be more confirmation that my other goals can also be achieved. We just need to roll up our sleeves, tighten our Prada belts, and continue searching for those things that we deem “perfect.”

Lindsay Lohan FINALLY Comes Out

July 30, 2008
Lindsay and Girlfriend Samantha Ronson

Lindsay and Girlfriend Samantha Ronson

I would like to give a HUGE congrats to Lindsay and Samantha. It is about time they made public appearances as a couple! Suspicions have long sense arose when insiders often spoke about how Samantha would be jealous if LaLinds would go out at night with out her, how they were always together, and more importantly when they were “roommates.” It’s great when celebrities are able to come out of hiding and be open and honest about who they are. It makes the GLBT community more widely accepted (it’s about time!)

However, Lindsay is pretty young and likes to go back and forth with the type of people that she dates. I would say she is Bi or experimenting, maybe she will stay with Sam and maybe she will go back. Just because you are with someone of the same sex – doesn’t necessarily mean that you are gay (you could be Bi or experimental) and the same rules apply to “straight” people.

You never know – Perhaps they will run off to California and get married now?! Which celebrity Tom Cruise would you like to come out of the closet?

Let Kim Kardashian Show You What NOT To Wear

July 30, 2008
Kim Kardashian Makes an Appearance at McDonalds 40th Birthday in Malibu

Kim Kardashian Makes an Appearance at McDonald's 40th Birthday Party for the Big Mac in Malibu

I don’t really know what to say about this outfit, part country, part skanky, part adventurer? I didn’t realize that Mcdonalds was throwing a pool party! I know Malibu is a place of half naked people running around by beaches, but this look is meant for a beach, not an event!

However, Kim Kardashian isn’t exactly known for her classiness… perhaps someone can explain to me why she is such a big star in the first place. I’ve heard of plenty of porn starts, and most of them don’t have their own reality show! I get the impression that the “girls next door” could teach Ms. kardashian a thing or two about dressing for public appearances.

Let’s talk about the No’s of this outfit:

  1. Wearing a Bikini top to any event is a NO
  2. Wearing a Bikini top to ANY event is a DEFINITE NO
  3. If you are going to wear a jumper, wear something underneath it, OTHER than a Bikini top
  4. The fedora is not cute with that outfit
  5. A few too many bangles for my taste…. they should stop before they crawl half way up your arm

Here are a few YES’s

  1. The Jumper itself is cute, and it is flattering to her skin tone
  2. The sandals are appropriate, cute and yet comfortable and summery
  3. The shorts are longer and so they help balance out the BIKINI TOP

What do you think about Kim’s outfit?

Money’s Tight; How a Shopaholic Survives the Recession

July 29, 2008
Basic Gap Dress; Updated With Great Accessories

Basic Gap Dress; Updated With Great Accessories

I admit it, I am a shopaholic. I love new things, I love buying things, looking online, and watching trends. However, like most people, with rising gas, food, and housing prices I have become more of a window shopper. So, how do I still shop responsibly, while paying for bills and growing my savings account?

Lately, I spend more time thinking over my purchases, buying clothing that will last longer, and go through multiple seasons, and avoiding expensive fads. For example, a pair of black pants; great staple, they last a long time, and you can wear them out or to work, layered with multiple tops for multiple outfits! I stick more to basics and accessorize more. Accessories are always less expensive than clothing items and can update any item. I love Etsy for their amazing selection of homemade accessories. If you don’t find what you are looking for there you can even ask someone to create what you have in mind.

However my biggest money saver is bargain shopping; I race to bargain sites like CCO or it’s plus size sister site; BCO. When I am in the stores I immediately go to clearance racks, and sales before I go anywhere else. If I need something I try to find it at its lowest discount, and then use a coupon! I subscribe to a Dollar Stretcher Tips Newsletter” and regularly check my bank accounts. One great tip that I learned is to pay yourself first. Whenever your paycheck comes in, put money into your savings account, then after you have paid yourself worry about your bills and then the extra money is yours to spend!

Money is tight, and I’m budgeting more than ever, but a shopaholic will always find a way!

What are your money saving tips?

Why Brooke Hogan Will Not Be Our Next President

July 28, 2008

Brooke Hogan

Brooke Hogan

Looking for a new roommate is never easy, but when Brooke decides to interview a potential roommate herself on the reality show; Brooke Knows Best, she jumps right into the sometimes taboo subject of politics. She declares that she “isn’t really into voting,” and can’t believe that a woman actually ran for president. She believes that women are completely governed by their emotions, PMS and Menopause. Brooke says that if she were president she would be “crying one day and yelling at someone the next.”

Obviously her perception of women seems to be a bit skewed, and she comes across as exceptionally unintelligent. I would recommend her reading up on the issue of politics, particularly Thieves in High Places by Jim HighTower or End of Empire by Alex Ziggler. It is fairly recent that women have really gotten more equal rights, and there are so many rights that we still have to fight for. Birth control is an excellent example.

“In its final days the Bush administration is drafting a new regulation that deliberately confuses the definitions of contraception and abortion and could seriously jeopardize women’s access to birth control. The new rule would allow doctors and health-care companies to deny women birth control.” NARAL Pro-Choice America

Women already have so many things that we are fighting for, not just feminists. We are capable and intelligent. Look at the single mom’s out there, if they can do all the amazing things that they do, why couldn’t a woman be president? It is pure ignorance to say that women run strictly from emotion to emotion. Unfortunately we don’t have the option anymore of voting a woman president into office, but it’s about time the “old boys club” got shook up.

What do you think about a women running for president, and what do you think about Brooke’s views?

Does Music Affect Your Style?

July 24, 2008
Music Inspired Fashion

Music Inspired Fashion

My style has changed quite a bit over the years, along with my taste in music. i think like most teens I went through the grunge clothing/grunge music phase; wearing the baggy jeans and the tiny baby doll tees. Then during my “angst” filled high school years I fell into the goth/punk/rock phase with the plaid skirts, the black tank tops, with the ripped fishnets and combat boots. After discovering Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple I was all consumed with the flowing skirts and the fitted tops with flip flips. Almost a modern hippie type of look.

I’ve come a long way since high school, and being in the corporate fashion world, I have opted for a more streamlined look. However, I definitely believe that my music mood still has quite an affect on my style, perhaps just slightly more subtly. Not I tend to go through shorter “phases,” sometimes they only last a day, sometimes a week, occasionally longer. I could wake up one morning and feel like listening to country (this is rare, but it happens) and put on my prairie style skirt with a peasant blouse and sandals. Sometimes I wake up and I’m craving Korn or Disturbed and put on darker eyeliner and wear darker clothing, or maybe that corset inspired top under that black blazer. Perhaps Nirvana is on the brain and I grunge it up a bit more than normal. Typically I fall somewhere between the Alternative Rock and Dance Music, so my clothes tend to be a bit brighter, louder, and more playful.

Does music affect your personal style? How has it changed as you’ve gotten older?
